Jeans for a Surgery Scar
Jeans for a Surgery Scar, Built for Sensitive Skin
A scar doesn't stop being sensitive the day the stitches come out. Many of our customers tell us it's months, sometimes years, before a waistband sitting directly across a scar stops feeling uncomfortable — and plenty of high-street jeans never stop rubbing, however long ago the surgery was.
Every jean in this collection replaces the usual rigid waistband seam with something softer. Our Tender Tummy Technology panel holds and smooths without a hard edge, our built-in belly band on the Above & Beyond Extra style gives extra room over a fuller or more sensitive area, and our Low Rise style sits away from scars positioned higher on the abdomen. All are made from soft stretch denim rather than stiff traditional fabric, so the fabric itself doesn't add to the irritation a scar can already cause.
I started I Am Denim because I couldn't find jeans that felt comfortable with a scar of my own, and it's stayed at the centre of everything we design since. If you've been avoiding jeans altogether, or sticking to leggings because nothing else feels right against a scar, we built this collection specifically to give you another option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will these jeans rub against a surgery scar?
The soft panel and stretch denim are designed to sit gently against the skin rather than rub or press on a scar.
How long after surgery can I wear these if my scar is still sensitive?
Every recovery is different, so we'd always recommend checking with your medical team, but many customers find our soft styles comfortable earlier than a standard jean.
Which style is best for a scar higher up the abdomen?
Our Above & Beyond Extra Tummy Friendly jean gives additional room and support for scars positioned higher on the tummy.
